• Hot week meant fires. This one started in The Vines and resulted in many of my friends being evacuated. We also got a 'Watch and Wait' text from the SES but this one never really felt like a threat to us.
  • Euan has been off sick all week. We had popped to the shops and saw 3 fires in Herne Hill. Neil rang to say he could see fires in Brigadoon. We got the bottom of the hill, and honestly it was shocking. All the way along the railway line there was fire. As we got home this was the view from the bottom of our street.
  • We popped to Brendas to take some pictures. The Helitacks were flying back and forth.
  • Apparently a freight train bound for Kalgoorlie had a locked wheel, creating sparks from Midland all the way through Walyunga National Park up to Bullsbrook.
  • At this point you can see the City but later many places down the coast were in thick smoke with ash debris.
  • I felt pretty calm at this point because the wind was blowing away from the house.
  • But there were so many fires that I wondered what would happen if the wind changed direction. We therefore prepared for this.
  • The list came out with all the things we needed to take. I backup the computers on to hard drives every week and leave them in the car so if a fire ever starts when i am not home then at least we have a digital back up of documents and photos.
  • I was also pleased that my cats were home so I locked them in for the day.
      • A day later and the fire fighters are still out there trying to contain the fire. We are safe for the time being.
